Intensive driving courses explained — are they worth it?
12 March 2026 5 min read
What is an intensive course?
An intensive (or "crash") course compresses 20–40 hours of driving lessons into 1–2 weeks, ending with a practical test booked at the same time. You go from beginner to licensed driver in days.
Who they work brilliantly for
- People with a job lined up that needs a licence
- Students home from university for a few weeks
- Anyone who's already had some lessons and just needs to get test-ready
- Confident learners who pick things up quickly
Who should think twice
- Total beginners often benefit from spaced-out lessons to let skills sink in
- Anyone with high test anxiety — the time pressure can backfire
- People who can't commit 4–5 hours a day for the course week
How many hours do you need?
| Prior experience | Recommended hours |
|---|---|
| Total beginner | 30–40 hours |
| Some lessons (5–10 hrs) | 20–25 hours |
| Test-ready / re-test | 6–10 hours |
Our pricing
